Nut Plates

A solution to placing nuts in blind positions. Each nut plate is a 2.5” by 0.375” aluminum plate with 5 10-32 drilled and taped holes. The shape makes assembly efforts significantly easier and quicker. Early versions used CA glue fixtures but due to the popularity of the nut plate solution a more efficient and less wistful fixture was needed. the fixture is a piece of Mic-6 6061 T6 aluminum with a partial surface relief that acts as a fence for quick refixturing, 1/4”-20 holes for bolts to fixture stock material and a hole pattern that matches the nut plates which allows them to be cut out. The fixture can make 20 nut plates per setup and is designed to work with our Saunders Machine Works Mod-vices.

A CAD model of the fixture with nut plates overlayed. The stock material starts as a solid plate held down by bolts in the left and rightmost columns of holes. Holes are then drilled to match the hole pattern in the fixture and three fasteners inserted into each column. the nut plates are then cut out and deburred.
